Built Different: The Rise of a Legend

In September 2019, David Elphinston made a bold decision that would shape not only his own future but also that of ABC Translation. Leaving his home country behind, David arrived in Lausanne with a clear goal: to take a chance, work hard, and make something of himself. He joined us as a logistics collaborator, and from the very first day, he showed us what true commitment looks like.

David’s beginnings were anything but easy. With no immediate home to go to, he slept in the office, quite literally living and breathing the company. He worked tirelessly, showing up every day with determination and humility. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world paused and most took time off, David didn’t take a single holiday. His unwavering dedication became an inspiration not only within our walls but across our industry.

Over the years, David built more than just a professional reputation – he built a life. He created a vast and supportive network in Lausanne, forging strong friendships and deep bonds with colleagues. Known and loved by peers for his authenticity and kindness, David became an essential part of the soul of ABC Translation. His collaboration with notaries and the Chancellery in Lausanne has always been based on mutual trust and respect, further strengthening our company’s standing.

ABC Translation would not be the same without David. His drive, passion, and loyalty played a critical role in shaping who we are today. But David is never one to rest on past achievements. After five remarkable years with us, he chose to pursue a new challenge: the Article 32 pathway—a Swiss professional validation program designed for adults without traditional educational credentials, allowing them to earn a Federal Certificate of Competence (CFC) by proving their skills and experience through rigorous exams and assessments.

It was a year filled with intense study, self-discipline, and perseverance. True to his nature, David gave it everything he had. And unsurprisingly, he passed his final exams with flying colors, officially becoming the proud holder of a Swiss CFC. It’s a testament to what can be achieved with heart and hard work.

David’s story is made even more unique by the fact that he always knew the academic path wasn’t for him. While many were pressured toward university, David chose another road – he wanted to work, to be independent, and to avoid the burden of academic debt. Today, he stands debt-free, experienced, and empowered, with a professional qualification that opens countless doors.

The entire ABC Translation team could not be prouder of David. His journey reminds us all that success is not defined by where you start, but by the courage you bring to the road ahead. David can accomplish anything he sets his mind to, and we cannot wait to see where his next adventure takes him.

Well done, lad—this is only the beginning.
